Two features that would make Digg better

I know its a faux pas, (however its spelled) to link to your blog, even moreso if its a crappy blog you hardly update, but to post something on digg, you have to have a link so I figured why not.

Anyway Digg 3.0 is great, I love using it, but I was hoping for two features that didn't make the cut.

The ability to have my own comments highlighted (That way I can quick scroll through a story that has a lot of comments and see if anyone responded to what I said.

Private messages I would love to send some of my friends private messages through the site, it would be a great way to communicate with other users without putting my email address out in the wild.

Anyway I'm sure I'll get yelled at for posting my blog, sorry.

DS Lite comming to america 6/11

I'm very happy that the DS lite is comming to the states, I'd like to pick one up this summer, and give my wife the old one. What surprises me most is the price, $129, I really thought they were going to bump the cost on this one. Sure we can only get the white one, but thats fine with me at least it will match my iMac ^.^

Tetris DS

Well, although Castlevania and Advance Wars are awesome games, they don't have as much replay value once you finish them as I would like, so I traded them in and picked up Tetris DS.

First off, I have to say, that I played Tetris DX on my Game Boy Pocket for hours on end, and other than that game, I didn't like the way the controls felt for any other Tetris game, I'm not sure why, they just always felt sluggish. Needless to say I was worried that this was going to be the case with the newest Tetris, I'm happy to report that it was not. The controls are dead on, and I'm glad I finally have a Tetris game to play on my DS, since Tetris DX wasn't compatable.

The online play is great, I'm having a blast with this game, and the different modes are pretty creative. The games music is pretty much remixes from old Nintendo games, and is a lot of fun, I do wish the music would change up a bit while you're playing online though. I guess that is my only complaint about the game.

I haven't tried a four player game, but I've heard they are hard to get going unless you have four friends and work it out ahead of time. I do wish it hadn't come out so close to Metroid Prime Hunters as I would love to get my hands on that game as well. I was flip flopping between which one to get I settled on Tetris because I figured it would have more replay value. Depending on when the New Super Mario Bros. comes out, MPH will probably be my next game. However I don't know if anything can steal my attention from Tetris right now, if I had to describe it in a few short words, I'd say simple, fast paced, and fun.

Well now they are out and I want one, it will probably be a while before I can snag one but as soon as I can I'll be posting from an iMac. I know there are some that will say I'm crazy, but I don't care, OSX is better than Windows and I don't have enough Windows only software to make me continue using it.

Besides Vista will be able to run on these new Macs so I can have the best of both worlds if I chose to.

Well, as much as I love Google/ig and it is a great page. I was listening to This Week In Tech or Diggnation, I'm not sure which and they mentioned Protopage, I took a look and was not unimpressed but uninterested. Today I switched over to them, thier page design is just nicer, much better looking, and really allows for real customization. I recomend google/ig and protopage to anyone that is looking for a new homepage. Both sites are great, protopage just has a bit more style.

I'm really looking forward to this movie, like a lot of others I really enjoyed the first two movies. Many people seem to think that the movie isn't going to be good at all since Singer left to direct the new Superman Movie. I'm a bit wary myself, but the cast was only under contract to do the first two films, I don't think they would have come back had the script not been worth comming back for. I could be wrong but I hope I'm not. X-Men movies are what brought comic book flicks back to life in my opinion.

Mario Kart DS Online

Well after waiting ages for EBgames to deliver Mario Kart for my DS I've been having a blast with it. So for about a week or so I've been playing the single player version because i didn't have any WiFi here at home and you need a browser to log in at school.

I decided to get a Wireless router because it was only a bit more expensive that the USB thing that Nintendo is selling and it is more usefull. I got it set up with very few problems. My DS kept stealing the IP of my computer, so I fiddled with the router a bit, and all is well.

The game plays online just as good as it does in single player mode. I got my ass kicked a few times but I think I'm getting the hang of it. I would definitly recomend this game to anyone, single player is awesome and multiplayer is just added goodness.

I would have to give Mario Kart DS like 9.7/10 or something stupid high like that.

Buffalo Wing Recipe

Since I live near to the home of the Buffalo Wing, I have inside information as to the secret ingredient of the Anchor Bar's Buffalo Wings. Amazingly enough, it's only Frank's Red Hot... big suprise eh?

Easy Buffalo Wing Sauce Recipe

3 Parts Frank's Red Hot
2 Parts Margarine or Butter (I prefer Olivio to replace the margarine for a healthier olive-oil based spread that tastes just like butter)

Heat Butter/Margarine and stir into Red Hot. Dip your fried or baked wings into the sauce and serve (fried works better in my opinion because it bubbles the skin and creates pockets for extra sauce to soak into).

For a milder or spicer sauce, add more or less Red Hot as desired. For even spicer wings you can add in black pepper or mash up some Jalapeno or Habenero pepper.

I hate EA, and I don't want their bullshit software on my system, if they make it so you can't install a game on your computer without installing this "updater" I will be buying even less EA games than I already do.

Cory Doctorow: This hardware hacker rebuilt a Nintendo Entertainment System into a tiny, hand-held form-factor, ingeniously stuffing all the parts into a tiny case and rewiring the guts to run off batteries. He even laser-etched a professional-looking faceplate. God, I wish these things were in regular production -- hand-built, bespoke mini-NESes with a little explanatory card would make brilliant gifts. This is pretty cool, I have a broken NES in my closet and a small box of nintendo games that I would love to play, oh well, perhaps someday I'll find a way to fix my NES, I know it can be fixed for about 10 bucks, I just keep putting it off. The only drawback to this portable is you can't really play Duck Hunt or Hogan's Alley, which are two of my favorite games on the system.

According to the official site, Mario Kart DS will have Balloon battles, which makes me very happy, up until now there was question as to weather or not Nintendo would include it, I'm very glad to see that they did. Is it just me or is the music on the website very "gunbound"?

I downloaded the screensaver just to check it out, and I noticed that every so often the DS in the picture shakes, I wonder if that means the game will ship with a rumble pack like Metroid Prime Pinball. All very interesting.

Zelda III NES cart may be real!

A seller on eBay is purported to have found at a flea market (for $20) a very early copy of The Legend of Zelda III for the original NES. Seems like the cart may be real!

Very cool, I hope he puts out the rom, I would like to see what Nintendo had in mind back then. Some are saying he should donate the game to a museum, which would be very cool. But I don't know what museum would be interested in it.

1000 pound butter sculpture of Vader and Yoda at the Tulsa State Fair

Each year at the Tulsa State Fair, an artist is commissioned to make a sculpture out of butter. In past years, cows, farmers, and baseball players were created out of hundreds of pounds of butter. This year, in celebration of Star Wars's final episode, TSF is featuring Darth Vader and Yoda, all dairy-like.

This is both cool and strangly gross at the same time, for some reason that seeing that much butter just doesn't sit well with my stomach. What I would like to know is how did they get the rock to float? I don't see any wires, I'm sure they are there.

Mario Basketball and more

First let me start by saying that I don't like basketball in the least. However this has piqued my interest. Why? My buddy would tell you it's because I'm a Nintendo fanboy, which I almost admit. The reason is the Mario sports games tend to be a lot of fun.

I don't like golf, not one bit, but my favorite game on my Gamecube was Mario Golf. I'm not a soccer fan either, but I played Super Mario Strikers the other day, and its fun, in fact its lots of fun.

I hate simulation sports games, but the Mario sports franchise games don't feel like the sports they are portraying, they have their own arcade feel to them, and that's why they are fun. Anyone can pick them up without knowing a thing about the sport and enjoy it.

Will I pick up Mario basketball for the DS, I don't know, I might, I would be more likely to pick up Mario Hockey if they decide to make it.

What I'm really hoping for is Mario Golf on the DS....With online play of course.

Since The Bobby Blackwolf Show introduced me to podcasts I have been looking around wanting more shows to listen too as I have copious amounts of time between classes and driving home just seems like a waste of gas. Over the past few weeks I have found a few that are now on my weekly lineup. Here they are in no particular order:

TWIT is by far my favoirte podcast, after that its probably Diggnation and Bobby Blackwolf the others are a tie for last. Video Games News Radio isn't bad, but I usually don't listen to the whole thing. Anyway, I just thought I would share, they are all fairly entertaining and good for drive time.

Farewell World of Warcraft

This is the second time I’ve cancelled my WoW account, it is a great game, in fact it is the first MMO that I have played all the way to end game, but I feel like I’m just throwing perfectly good time down the crapper when I play. Last time I quit I couldn’t bring myself to uninstall the game, this time I had no trouble doing it. In fact I put the CD’s for the game at the bottom of a big box in my closet so I won’t get tempted.

I have to say that this is one of the best games I have ever played, and from level 1 to 59 it’s a blast, Once you reach level 60 you start the grind for items, which isn’t bad by itself but Blizzard seems to think that everyone who plays WoW just has loads of free time to spend in Azeroth. The instances are just too long. Back around levels 35-40 when I was spending time at Scarlet Monastery was great. The SM instance is great because its broken into pieces that you can do in a short time with a decent group. Later on in the game Instances like Scholomance or Black Rock Spire take hours to complete. This is where I felt the game fails. I found myself unable to participate in the end game because I can’t say ok I’m going to spend the next three to four hours at the computer uninterrupted, and even if my life didn’t have built in time constraints to my computer time due to school and family I wouldn’t want to spend that much time doing the same instances over and over.

I guess I would have to say that World of Warcraft is a game built for the casual gamer like myself from levels 1-59, however when you get to endgame its for hardcore gamers only. It is two vastly different games in one package, and while both games are fun, the later just takes too much time for someone like me to enjoy.

My gaming habits lately have been spent on short bursts of gaming, either playing my GCN or some of my older systems like the SNES, punctuated by bits of Warcraft III or Call of Duty. Last night I decided to re-install Neverwinter Nights again, I never really gave the game the attention it deserves. I don’t have the expansions and I don’t really care if I get them as there are plenty of player made modules available for the game. Although I don’t plan on getting any of them until I beat the game, which should take a while since I’m not interested in spending hours in front of the computer.

I happened to stumble upon www.start.com/3 the other day in my wanderings, I am very impressed with this website, the ability to add my own rss feeds to a webpage is very handy, and no longer will I need a separate reader for my daily rss junk. However I’m sure it would be linked to my @msn account which I’m none to happy about.

Later I found out that google has their own version of /3 you can find it at www.google.com/ig it also does the same thing that start.com does, and it links up with my @gmail account. This really tickles my fancy ^.^ While I like the way /3 behaves more than the ig, ig has me because it links to my gmail account, if only I could take the interface from /3 and apply it to ig, then I would be the most powerful being in the universe, or at least the most powerful being sitting at my desk.

Anyway, check them both out, both are handy and the only real difference is looks and what email address you want to link to.

The Bobby Blackwolf Show

Way back in the day I used to watch an internet show on the Pseudo network called Gametime, starring Scot Rubin and Jim Downs, it was about video games and all things video gamish. After a while Pseudo went under and Game Time was lost, much later Scot started the unnamed show at allgames.com with The Dude and Gringo, it was great but then they moved on to work at G4-TV. I don't know the particulars but Scot left and re-created Allgames.com

Now In the spirit of the unnamed show one of the chatters from way back in the day has created the Bobby Blackwolf show, which is a live show with an interactive chat room so you can talk to the host durring the show and you can even Skype in to the show. If you can't listen to the show live you can pick it up on podcast. This show has me hooked on podcasts durring the long breaks between classes. Check it out, if your into games, and gaming news you will prolly enjoy the show.

Rockman

I made this sig a while ago just working on my brushing and using the pen tool. I blurred most of the stock and background to give the impression that rockman is moving at a high rate. It is one of my favorites as it does have that feel for me, and what I set out to do rarely is what I end up with in the end. Many have told me that its too blury but I don't care, I made sure that his face was in focus, almost like he is moving too fast to capture an image of him except for what your are focused on at the time.
